View Full Version : rear suspension removal

I've been trying to remove the rear suspension/t-plate whatever and I'm wondering if disassembly of the whole chassis is necessary. I've removed the rear screw, but there are 2 tabs that limit the suspension travel and I don't want to break them. Am I missing something?

there's a battery bucket inside the main chassis and the pins on the rear plate are held down by it. Complete disassembly probably isn't necessary, but you will have to at least loosen the chassis enough to give the battery bucket a bit of play. And hopefully not so much that the steering or the charger/power-switch comes out.
completely opening an epoch ranks somewhere between miserable and frightening, and probably should be avoided. It's not the hardest car I've ever worked on, but it's size makes it close. You simply undo the screws...and the whole car falls into a pile of junk right in your hands.

Agreed, total PITA! So why are you trying to remove it stark?
I'd love to see a nice pancar mod for the epoch. It would make it so much easier to work on! Unfortunately I think it will require ditching the stock servo/gearbox to achieve it feasibly unless you could make a frame to hold the gearbox together etc. Failing that, you'd have to pick up a super tiny servo and then open it up and connect wires directly to the pot and to the servo motor so you could wire it to the epoch. The one I just got would totally fit!

perhaps we can get chuckyluv to find and remanufactuer some vds and or pan style bodies? these are becoming a hot item for mini-z and i think would make the transition to epochs as well. mini-z lit parts will certainly make this much easier ;)

WOW! What receiver is that? Is it a Speed Control as well, or just a receiver? Do you have a micro Speed Control as well? I think I can use that for my PanChassis kit.

Haven't tried the speedo yet, but it's for airplanes. Model # is GWS GS100E. Since it is made for airplanes you have to set it up each time you power it, but user ph2t has gotten it to setup properly with a pistol Tx.
Receiver is the GWS R4PII 75FM receiver. This I *have* tested and it works well. I am currently running it in my rc18t with an internal antenna at my local track and I haven't had any glitching. Runs $30-40 w/ a single xtal (single because it uses a smaller size, so just match it up with an existing FM channel xtal set that you have and it should work).
Servo is clearly marked in the pic, haven't put it to use either. I picked up all the goodies and then our housing search got serious. We finally got an offer in/accepted so things have slowed down a bit and I hope to pick up some of my rc projects again. My epochs are in sore need of love!
