Just out of curiosity, who has considered runnign lithium polymer in their epoch? I have some 170mah cells that are the same size as 4 1/3AAA cells, but there has to be some way to rig a voltage cutoff device small enough to fit into the indoor racer's chassis. Does anyone have a LED/Resistor combo of some sort that will cut out with a voltage rating lower than 3v?

Yes I usually use two Kokam 145 packs in parallel however any similar size like the Worley 170 mAh will also fit.

On my original Spud I did added LEDs to indicate a low battery charge but the circuit ends up being heavily dependent on the individual LED specs forward bias voltage, there’s not a lot of room for additional circuitry and most newer commercially available LEDs trickle off and get dim like an incandescent bulb without additional circuitry. In my old spare part bin I had some blue LED’s that where perfect since they simply cut off at exactly 3 volts, but I have yet to find a source for similar LED’s. In newer versions since the car noticeably slows at around 3.2 volts the LED’s are not exactly a necessity.

Hmm, thanks. I will check with some local places and find out. A big distributor for major manufacturers is near me (Trilogy Marketing), I guess I should give them a call.

M787b, that means they're near us too - let me know what you find out! :)

Is that who you buy 4562s from? I knwo when I ordered myself some that's who sent them to me.

Nope, we buy them from a few places depending on who has them at the best price.

This is better

My favorite Epoch batteries:

• 180 mAh Kan three cell pack.
• 340 mAh Worley LiPo pack
• E-tec 420 LiPo pack.

The left body mount must be shifted back to use the last hole for easy replacement. The connectors are polarized to prevent mistakes.

Additionally I now use just a single LED and resistor attached directly to the switch/charge adapter CB to help remind you to turn off the car since leaving it on is death to the LiPo’s. With the Epoch you really don’t need a low voltage indicator since the cars stops long before you get down below 3 volts.
