my initial thoughts upon running my epoch were, this thing is too heavy and the body is a significant part of that weight.

where can we get lexan bodies for these?

does anyone have these already that they can show us?

Yeah, what happened to a lot of the Epoch upgrades i never seen. The lexan bodies, the foam tires, the alloy tires? Look very cool i wish they had them.

Oooh, how many of those AE86 do you have? Also, how do they attach, have to make a two stubs to attach like the stock body?

If your planning on making lexan bodies...

I'd like to put in a request for a Dodge Ram, or at least a pick-up truck of some kind.

I actually always thought that one of the advanteges of the Epoch were it's scale appearance. That would all change if you painted the Lexan on the outside.

With the sale going, maybe it is time to convert an Epoch to fit a Hornby 95 Boss 302.

Why would you paint it on the outside?

Yes, the scale look in nice, but a lighter body would be great too.

i didn't catch that either.... i'm sure you already know but you paint lexan from the inside.
see mylexan mini-z civic gallery (http://www2.mini-zracer.com/gallery/album584)
or my xray m18 gallery (http://www2.mini-zracer.com/gallery/album636)

If you paint on outside, it looks more like a hard body, and you don't get all the gloss that you do with inside painting.

sure and you'll loose bits of paint everytime you graze/hit something

impressive! i can only imagine painting a 1:43 will get tricky unless there is a mask kit available with the body. otherwise it's going to be alot of tiny mask cuts here and there :p

Very nice Cdog.

Arch, if you cover it with a layer of gloss cote, it won't be that bad. Even though it will have some gloss, it won't be like painting on the inside.

Just checked the m18 video arch, man I love that track! Heh, m18 was a bit big for it, I bet you barely hit 10% throttle on it :) Mini-z's looked like they could run a little closer to their speed, but even then it looked like the darker z (I assume that was the fet'd one and not the orangey one?) wasn't running as fast as it could. Z's looked quite nimble, I'm hoping my xmod conversion will be as nice. Would love to see the CRT on it, or maybe some epoch's. CRT still has me drooling. If only I had $160 of disposable income :)

the track is actually fun for drifting m18's.

i'll have to see what z's your referring to but yes, my track is a bit small for big fet stack z's. mine are mostly 1x1 but the silver mclaren is a 2x2.

i do believe i have a video of the epoch in my mzr epoch gallery?

 can't seem to find the time to fisish up the crt  considering the time and money invested i should have finished it much earlier.

so, back to lexan bodies.... what type of paint does everyone prefer for lexan? rattle can or air brush?

I don't paint myself, I have a buddy who does it for me. He airbrushes. Check the paint contests at yourmicro, they have some impressive work in both rattlecan and airbrush.

Found the epoch video, looks nice. I like the hit on the stationary vehicle :) Also looks like you're pinning the throttle on most of the track, perhaps time for a turbo or 4 cell :) I would also suggest turning down your dual rate, but I know the epoch Tx doesn't do that. From your ridiculous collection (enough to bring tears of envy), you should have plenty of Tx that will let your dial down the steering a bit for a nice high speed epoch track! Oh if only my 2pl would work with the epoch...

On a side note, this forum has certainly stirred up the community, this is the most epoch/rc posting I've seen in a while. We should pick an irc channel and hang out n chat. I'm on enterthegame already, I'll pop into #micro_rc if anyone wants to join me.

I have used rattle cans with great success. I also own an automotive detailing airbrush that I got from Harbor Freight. for $8 it isn't bad, but I always seem to buy rattle cans. If you take your time and apply thin coats, it should come out great.

I use rattle cans.

IMO...

I don't think its the choice of rattle vs. airbrush for most people, its more of a cashflow vs. equipment type of situation. ;)

I just painted 2 peices of lexan, just minutes ago.

One was a HPI MRS4 BMW and the other was a Losi Mini-T H2.

The HPI I screwed up because of a bad can of paint. I think it looks like crap the way it turned out. I just had to do the best I could after the fact.

Then the Losi lexan just plain sucks ______!!!! Flimsy and thin lexan and NO protective plastic. I messed it up by moving the masking to soon.

These were only my 2nd and 3rd lexans I've ever painted, so I'll just consider them learning tools.

As far as Epoch lexan goes, I would definatley like to see an outer protective coating on them and still paint them from the inside.

i stick with rattle cans for the price...

this was my 1st lexan paint job
http://www2.mini-zracer.com/albums/album584/IMG_0953.sized.jpg

this was my 2nd
http://www2.mini-zracer.com/albums/album636/IMG_1109.sized.jpg

for me, the key is takeing it slow and make sure i take my time with the mask work. it's easy to rush and that's when my mistakes creep in

Oh, the agony of screwing up a perfectly good lexan. ***sob-emoticon***

I have only done one before and it was fine, but now I mess up 2 in one night. ***BS-emoticon***

TAKE IT SLOW!!!

Take the advice!!

Damn, am I angry. :)

Or otherwise learn the hard way. ;)

rattle can or air brush?Well obviously the airbrush is gonna be superior. Its more of a question of the convenience of a $3 rattle can, or do you invest in a $30 airbrush, and a $50 air compressor. (Keeping in mind that's on the cheap end of the spectrum)...

... with that said, I use rattle cans, but I shure would like an air brush.

Oh yeah, and its hard to appreciate scale details when the car is in motion. Save your nice scale body for display, you need a light weight body if you wanna race. :p

If someone was sellin' Lexan for Epochs, I'd be buying. ;) ;)

Yeah, I bought a couple of his bodies. This one fits the 04 better.

Never got his Grave Digger body, really wanted one of those. :(

Here's the Mini-X body I bought at TinyRc.

It is nice to see some of DBR's bodies painted up. The details around the grills look good, do you hand paint those? The only lexan close to this scale I messed with is slot car bodies.

Bakc on topic for a sec.... I have at least three of the Trueno bodies... I've had them for two years now... one I painted... but I used a hairdryer to speed the paint drying and it deformed ....not a lot but enough to make me unhappy.... (never happend before.. I guess these are much thinner lexan)..and two unpainted

I love those DBR bodies.. they look much better painted... when I first saw them i couldn't get the Gist of what they would look like... now I'm impressed
