i'm just curious to hear what the rest of you die hard epoch fans are using? i'm new to this so i'm hear to learn from you guys :p
thanks to a reply in another thread, i started using my mini-z tx. it's a kyohso kt-5 and i already have lots of time on it so it's a good comfortable fit. much better than the tiny stock tx anyway. it's no ko propo helios but it's an improvement.

Clear cased Iwaver TX works perfect for me. ;)

I'm using a Kopropo Helios with the Mini-Z 27 MHz-module. Perfect for racing. You can program the tx, so my little Astons run well dialed on our race tracks.

copied below from a thread at ripper: http://ripper7racing.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3826
names credited below are ripper names, but I use the same name in both forums and others might if/when they make it over :)
Someone should consolidate and sticky.
Works:
prefex kt-2 (from kyosho mini-z)
IW 01 tx (clear)
IW 02 tx (digital)
Dynamite Rocket Racer stock tx
rc18t stock tx - back on the working list, figured out my issues :)
Works with rumors of or slight problems:
prefex kt-5 - throttle and reverse don't go to 100%, triming doesn't fix
Doesn't Work:
futaba 2pl
Thanks to arfin, traxxasman215, Bird and snoopyspaz for their contributions.

I'm still using the Stock, but that is actually a step UP for me, since i have never owned anything better then an Epoch. I am lookin' for a kt-2 though.

I couldn't stand the stock. The adjustable angle grip is a nice idea but isn't tight. Might try adding some spacers or fuel tubing somewhere to tighten it up, but haven't really looked into it. Beyond that the nice thing is the 9V power source since its hard to come up with 8x AA's for each Tx you have.
I find myself desiring the computer iwaver 02 (old or the unreleased new one). Hopefully it will be similar to my 2pl (which I love) and more compatible (since 2pl doesn't work with all 27AM Rx).

I was using the stock one... but I forgot that these use Mini-Z Xtals (haven't run my epochs in a year)..... I think I'll use my M8... :p

Let me know if you get them to work w/ your M8, I ran into problems when trying to use Epochs w/ the Mini-Z Module.

well, avant got it working with the mini-z module on the helios, but has anyone done it with the mini-z module on the EX-1 Mars (not the R) from KO Propo?
I just got one and am still reading the manual, but so far, no luck.

Works:
prefex kt-2 (from kyosho mini-z)
IW 01 tx (clear)
KT-2 does not work correctly. It SEEMS to work, but for some reason the throttle is very stuttery. It's only when you swap back to a 'correct' TX that you really notice.
The KT-5 has long been said not to work, but does work with my Epoch board 4cell SSMT...however, it does stutter a lot.
Clear IW TX doesn't work for me...
In my experience, the only TX that is compatible with every 27Mhz AM car I have is the A-Tech/ VMG etc TX.

Thanks for the info OTP, i was actually looking to get one as i heard it was an improvement over the stock controller, guess not.

My Mini-Z-Module for Helios also works in my very old EX-1 Precious - so I guess it will work in the Mars, too. But I don't use it for the Epochs. If I drive at home (alone) it works fine. When there are other Epochs around, I get terrible interference on the steering with both, Helios and EX-1. I don't know why.
I like using the transmitter that came with the Mini-T for my Epochs - works far better than any Kyosho-TX.

Thanks for the info janniz. I guess since that post I bought the used EX-1 Mars (non R) but didn't post with the fact. It came with the Mars mini-z module and it doesn't work at all with the epoch. I'm glad you confirmed that the modules pretty much work across models, so there is a chance the helios module in my mars might work to control an epoch (since supposedly the helios + helios mini-z module works). First I've heard of interferance using the helios tho, a bit disturbing. I emailed and asked KO about module compatibility between radios and they said:
"The specific reason is that the Helios output signal is stronger then the Mars radios due to the faster signal (Advanced HSR) that the Helios transmits. FCC does not regulate 27MHz other then using correct frequencies
on this particular band.
But since the module is made for the Mini-Z, the output is not that strong compared to our FM modules."
He also clarified and say that the output signal from the Mars module is weaker than that of the helios module. I don't think that helps though since there is NO response from the mars module. I'm hoping there is another difference between the mars and the helios module. I'll have to ask my track owner about testing the helios module before buying if possible.
Let me know if you get them to work w/ your M8, I ran into problems when trying to use Epochs w/ the Mini-Z Module.
It’s a pain there are at least two AM modules for the M8, the Mini-Z version/module does not work. Will see if I can find the model number.
